Review Methodology

This page documents how we research, test, and keep tool information current. If a page doesn't meet this standard yet, it is in our refresh queue — and you can flag it via Corrections.
Pricing verification
- Every price, quota, and limit we publish is checked against the official pricing page or documentation, and we link the source on the tool page.
- Each verified page carries a Last verified date. If pricing changes after that date, the vendor's site is authoritative until our next refresh.
- We record free-tier limits and overage behavior where the vendor documents them, because these matter more in practice than headline prices.
Hands-on testing
For priority tools (our Top listings, comparisons, and "best of" picks) we go beyond the vendor's marketing:
- We sign up and run the tool against a realistic task from our audience's workflows — e.g. a coding agent on a real repository, a TTS tool on real script audio, an OCR model on real documents.
- We note limitations we hit — rate limits, quality drop-offs, missing export options, regional restrictions — not just what worked.
- Screenshots and test notes back specific claims. Where we haven't tested something ourselves, the page says so instead of implying first-hand experience.
Ratings and scoring
- Listing decisions follow the public 100-point system in our Editorial Policy.
- User-facing ratings on tool pages come from real user submissions on this site. We do not display aggregate ratings we cannot trace, and we do not import or fabricate review counts.
Update rules
- High-traffic and high-change pages are re-verified on roughly a 30-day cycle; the rest on a 90-day cycle.
- Tools whose websites go offline are unpublished or clearly flagged.
- Every meaningful change to a page's pricing or claims updates the Last verified date.
